February 24, 2017 North Country Food Alliance (NCFA) update: we got approved for a new garden plot in North Minneapolis!

OUR NEW NORTH MINNEAPOLIS 2017 GARDEN:

We’re excited to announce that we’ve been approved by the City of Minneapolis to take over a city-owned empty lot in north Minneapolis to create a new garden project. This spring we’ll be breaking ground on an empty lot on James Avenue North for a new garden project while still working on our new garden projects we started last year in Saint Paul’s North End Neighborhood.

This will be the 10th garden project we’ve spear-headed in the Twin Cities since our incorporation in 2013.

We’d like to give a big THANK YOU to Kill Kancer, a local cancer prevention nonprofit for sponsoring this new garden project. Kill Kancer also helped last year with funds for our Saint Paul gardening and we’re excited to continue working together to provide more access to healthy food in the Twin Cities.

DINNER PARTY! COME HAVE DINNER WITH US:

We’re also excited to announce a fundraiser Dinner Party at the French Hen Cafe (518 Selby Ave, St. Paul) on Saturday March 11.

Happy hour will start at 5pm, and a family-style dinner will be served at 6pm. $30 minimum per plate recommended donation.

Come eat with us and have a conversation about increasing access to healthy food in the Twin CIties. There’s a facebook event page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1345850095479653/

FOODSHARE:

This year has been a busy one so far with NCFA still partnering with Cub Foods metro-wide and we’re getting ready to start working with all the new Hy-vee stores in the Metro Region. We’re realizing that in the upcoming months we’re going to need to purchase a new bigger truck for our foodshare operation as volume keeps increasing. If you’d like to make a donation towards us buying a new foodshare truck feel free to do so on our website at northcountryfoodalliance.org.

As we get closer to spring we’ll be scheduling some work days in our gardens where anyone will be welcome to come get your hands dirty with us building the 2017 NCFA gardens.

As always feel free to call or email us with any questions or to make sure you’re on our lists to be contacted for volunteer opportunities.

From all of the workers at North Country Food Alliance.
Have a beautiful day!
