Administrative Meeting

Tonight we held our first administrative meeting of North Country Food Alliance. We articulated the mission, wrote our articles of incorporation, and elected board members. Tomorrow morning we will have our first board meeting and officially hand executive power over to the worker-members of the organization. Rather than a traditional non-profit model with an executive director, we are pursuing an egalitarian model in which every worker will have a say in how the organization is run. No worker will have power over another, and all decisions will be made as a group. Therefore, the board must hand over its power in order to avoid unequal power dynamics.

After this board meeting we will have our signatures notarized on some paperwork and send it in to the Minnesota Secretary of State. It's been a late night tonight and will be an early morning tomorrow, but all this hard work is well worth it for the positive force that this organization will represent.
